Rhode Island State Police and members of the Providence community are set to meet Monday to discuss the aftermath of the Ferguson and Staten Island protests.
State Police Colonel Steven O’Donnell told WPRO the meeting is part of a continued effort to reach out and be accessible to the people of Providence.
“The community leaders who have been at this for a long time will support that we’ve been at it for a long time and that continued dialog is so critical to the entire success of the state of Rhode Island,” said O’Donnell.
O’Donnell said he and other law enforcement members had met with community leaders prior to the protests and had promised they would come back. He said he expects questions to come up about the highway shutdown that occurred after the grand jury decision in Ferguson.
“Hopefully we have that dialog where any person who wants to protest they have to do it where they can’t interfere with somebody’s opportunity to and from the hospital.”
O’Donnell said he hopes people will see the continued involvement of State Police with helping build stronger communities.
The meeting is scheduled from 8:00p.m. until 9:30p.m. Monday night at the South Providence Rec Center.
