Providence Mayor-elect Jorge Elorza announced a weekend-long inaugural celebration weekend focused on charitable giving and community activities before he takes the oath of office the following Monday.
The festivities will begin on Saturday, January 3 with a day of service where residents are encouraged to donate canned food and other non-perishable goods as well as volunteer for their favorite charitable organization.
The following day the Providence Children’s Museum will host a day of children’s activities and games in addition to their regular exhibits.
And finally on Monday January 5, Mayor-elect Elorza will take the oath of office outside on the steps of City Hall around 2:00p.m. which be followed by a public celebration at the Cranston Street Armory at 7:00p.m.
“We are particularly pleased to hold the One Providence Inaugural Celebration at the Cranston Street Armory, where there hasn’t been an inaugural celebration in decades,” Elorza said in a statement.
“We are planning an especially enjoyable evening that highlights Providence’s world-class artistic, cultural and culinary scene.”
All events will be free and open to the public.
