PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Liberian group has honored Rhode Island health officials for their work reaching out to the West African community about Ebola.
WPRI-TV reports the Liberian Community Association on Sunday presented its community partnership award to Michael Fine, director of the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Rhode Island has a large Liberian and West African population, and many people in the state have had relatives back home who have been affected by the outbreak. There have been no cases of Ebola in Rhode Island.
In the last several months, the health department has held regular community meetings about Ebola, printed posters and brochures and helped respond to suspected cases.
Fine says he is honored to be recognized for the work.
