Rep. Joe McNamara, the chairman of the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare, is calling together Rhode Island’s first public forum about the state’s plans and protocols regarding the Ebola virus.
“We want to ensure that first-responders and healthcare providers are very comfortable with the protocols that are being rolled out,” McNamara told WPRO News Friday.
McNamara has invited Dr. Michael Fine, Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health; Linda McDonald, President of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals; Donna Policastro, Executive Director of the RI State Nurses Association, and Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott, a consultant medical director for the Department of Health, to attend the special HEW hearing.
“Some of this is educational and also, hopefully we will relieve some anxiety that many of our constituents have expressed,” said McNamara.
The hearing will be held in Room 35 of the State House at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The hearing is open to the public. It will also be broadcast on Capitol TV (Channel 15 for Cox and Full Channel, Channel 34 for Verizon, and at www.rilin.state.ri.us/CapTV ).
