SOME THOUGHTS BEFORE ELECTION DAY…
While we are most focused on the governor and Providence mayor stories…it is gnawing at me that the attorney general and treasurer races have received a second class treatment from the media.
Perhaps we will be surprised that the voters did pay attention to the races and will elect the best qualified for the job. But my guess is that Peter Kilmartin retains his AG post…a shame for this state. And that Ernie Almonte will fall short against Seth Magaziner.
Kilmartin doesn’t recognize his need to step away from 38 Studios. He’s a former legislature heavy..he voted for the enabling law. It’s not any more complicated than that. Evidence that he doesn’t have the moral/ethical sense to be our top law enforcement officer.
And Magaziner is so less equipped than Almonte to run the office of treasurer that it is frightening he is trailing in the polls.
Please don’t draw the lazy party line.
As for governor..good luck. My sense is that any choice we make will be better than Linc Chafee. That is my consolation.
And the mayor race…I have no idea who wins. The numbers ward to ward look tough for Buddy Cianci and his return attempt has been a one man battle against a media world lead by a newspaper possessed. Jorge Elorza has shown a shallow grip on the issues…his learning curve will be steep.
While the rest of the country experiences true two party competition we will sleep walk through the federal races again.
And nice to see the first couple in its split visit this week. While always cool to have them here..know they weren’t welcomed by their own party in the places that count this week.
Looking forward to seeing the kids at the front door.
Where did October go?
