PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gina Raimondo is bringing first lady Michelle Obama to Providence for a get-out-the-vote rally.
Obama is headlining Thursday’s event at Juanita Sanchez School. The theme is “rebuilding the middle class,” which was also the focus of last week’s rally at Rhode Island College featuring first lady Hillary Clinton.
Raimondo says she’s focusing in the final days before Nov. 4 on boosting voter turnout.
A Brown University poll this week showed the treasurer in a statistical tie with Republican nominee Allan Fung. The chairman of the Republican Governors Association, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, has visited the state twice on the Cranston mayor’s behalf and plans to return Monday.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to discuss the economy at Rhode Island College on Friday during an official visit.
