Republican Cormick Lynch says his opponent David Cicilline and other government officials should enact a travel bans to keep Americans safe from Ebola rather than worry about their own reelection.
“There’s an ongoing theme with reality denying complacent government that is far more concerned with their potential for reelection than the public health,” Lynch told WPRO’s John DePetro.
Lynch said the Obama administration should ban travel to and from West Africa and set up quarantine zones for individuals who have already traveled to the United States from countries affected by the virus.
“The only people who disagree with this are the incumbents,” said Lynch, “Even the Liberian population is deeply, deeply, concerned; even more so than the general population.”
Governor Chafee commented on the idea of a travel ban Friday, saying he believes the decision is in the federal government’s hands.
“I think those decisions should be made nationally; the CDC, National Guard, Homeland Security, the President, everybody is working on this,” said Chafee.
Rhode Island has the largest population of Liberian immigrants in the country.
