EBOLA has become the lead story throughout America in the last week. And in consistent fashion with other world crisis matters, the Obama administration perceived being behind the proper response curve accelerates the coverage.
President Obama is now camped at the White House working the case, that is a good sign (and ironic that a presidential trip to RIC was cancelled). The hearings on the Hill on Thursday show a CDC that is still apologizing and catching up to simple things like the travel patterns in and out of Africa. Not good.
Higher travel-ban demand is the lightning rod now and the administration argues that it is more dangerous to do than not to.
Right now America’s psyche is as worrisome as the virus itself.
THE GOVERNORS RACE shows Gina Raimondo up 6 points over Allan Fung. New entry Bob Healey polls at 8 percent in the WPRI/Projo survey. That is a lot of influence on the outcome and it will probable grow. That means that Fung becomes a longer shot. Raimondo will keep her powder dry and repeat “jobs jobs jobs” to the finish. She made the race closer with her aggressive abortion stance and can’t risk another battle.
ATTORNEY GENERAL Peter Kilmartin leads his republican opponent Dawson Hodgson by 14 points. Scary thought. Kilmartin needs to go. He has mishandled the 38 Studios investigatin by not recusing and is a patronage player. Scarier even is the Projo endorsement. There is precedent for a late surge in this race. Please pay attention to it.
And the most qualified candidate for any seat is Ernie Almonte..running for Treasurer. And he is down 12 points to Democrat Seth Magaziner. Can he make a case for his experience and expertise in the last few weeks?
THE PROVIDENCE MAYORAL RACE is a daily grind with debates almost every day. The latest at Brown University was a three on one attack on Buddy Cianci. Two opponents and a moderator put Cianci on trial. Hard to feel sorry for him…but this was a political gang bang.
The Patriots escape over the Jets..the football Giants need a big turnaround in Dallas. And the World Series is set with the playoff undefeated Royals versus the baseball Giants. Fun time of year..unless you hate bagging leaves.
Have a great weekend.
