With three weeks until the election, members of the Democratic Party along with supporters attended a Unity Dinner to help raise money for the party.
During the dinner, the crowd of 437 heard from the democratic candidates running for office as well as current members of the local and federal delegation.
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse told the crowd that it is important for the Democrats to win elections is because Republicans “bring anger and accusations” while Democrats “bring answers and solutions.”
The dinner was held on the same night that WPRI and Providence Journal released results of a poll that showed the democratic candidate leading in the Secretary of State, Lieutenant Governor, General Treasurer, and Attorney General Races.
“Our focus is on November 4 and the most important thing we are focusing on now is getting people out to vote,” said Chairman of the Rhode Island Democratic Party Joseph McNamara. “We are taking nothing for granted, the work begins now.”
During the speeches, candidate for Governor Gina Raimondo thanked her primary opponents for the support they have shown.
The last speech of the night was delivered by the Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz from Florida.
“You never take anything for granted. There hasn’t been a democratic governor elected here in 24 years and we want to make sure that Gina Raimondo is the first woman governor elected from Rhode Island,” said Schultz.
