HOPKINTON, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island State Police SWAT team has arrested a man accused of threatening officers with a weapon.
The Westerly Sun reports that police stormed a house just before midnight Saturday and took Michael W. Neugent into custody.
The incident began with a call to Hopkinton police from a neighbor reporting a domestic disturbance. Police say a woman told them that the 42-year-old Neugent held her down and choked her with both hands.
An hours-long stand-off ensued.
Shortly before midnight SWAT officers stormed the building and after resisting, police said, Neugent was arrested.
He was charged with domestic assault, domestic disorderly conduct and threat to a public official. He also faces state charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
It wasn’t known Sunday if he’s represented by a lawyer.
