Lieutenant Governor hopeful Dan McKee unveiled three initiatives he says will support Rhode Island’s business sector.
“We got to be ambitious because we don’t want to be the lowest business friendliness in the country any longer,” said McKee.
He said he will work with the Small Business Advisory Council to look at Rhode Island’s business tax structure and compare it to the surrounding states. After comparing it, he would make recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly as needed to make the state more business friendly.
McKee also promised to launch an in-depth assessment of the impact of business regulator compliance on Rhode Island businesses.
“As the owner of a small business for more than 30 years, I have often questioned the logic of business and licensing regulations since they often have unintended financial consequences on a business’s ability to prosper and create jobs,” said McKee.
Lastly he wanted to integrate job training resources into businesses. He would make job training a major focus and would create strong working relationships between the council and members of the Rhode Island congressional delegation for the identification of addition federal funding for workforce development.
McKee said “I see that the Lt. Governor can partner in with other areas of the business community, in government, municipal government, state government and anywhere it makes sense that we push forward.”
