“One never likes to say no to the President but I think I’ve made pretty clear where I stand,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse one day after removing his name from consideration to replace departing Attorney General Eric Holder.
It was reported Thursday that Whitehouse’s name was on the list of candidates to become Attorney General, however the Senator said he was not interested.
“I’m out of that running, but it was flattering to be considered and I’m confident that when I see the names of the other folks who have been mentioned; if the President picks from any of that list it’s a really talented group of people.”
Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, is resigning after six years, but will remain in office until a new attorney general is confirmed.
