NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) – A Newport resident has filed a complaint with state elections officials accusing casino opponents of failing to file accurate campaign finance reports.
The Newport Daily News reports that Edward Coleman Jr., a city firefighter, filed the complaint on Sept. 16 with the state Board of Elections. He says the two most recent filings of Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling did not fully list expenses.
He says the filings cite a small portion of spending. He says the group’s website, advertisements, staff or consultants or a recent rally were not mentioned.
Liz Taber, spokeswoman for the group, said the omission was inadvertent and an updated report will be filed.
On its Sept. 10 report covering Aug. 29 to Sept. 5, the group reported expenses of $7,525 and donations of $30,000.
