A group of environmental leaders gathered at Riverside Park in Providence to urge Rhode Islanders to vote yes on question 7.
“It’s really about providing healthy communities by cleaning up and reusing contaminated sites, by providing parks, supporting local agriculture, and by promoting outdoor recreation and tourism,” said Director of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Janet Coit.
The event at Riverside Park hosted many environmental leaders who each gave reasons why the bond should pass.
They cited the passage of the question would improve the environment, economy, preservation and protection, tourism and create healthy communities in Rhode Island.
If passed, Roger Williams Park Zoo would receive $15 million to make improvements to the zoo.
Executive Director of the zoo, Jeremy Goodman, said “that means new exhibits, new education center, increased tourism for the state.” He said they project a $90 million dollar return on investment from the zoo alone.
The question will be voted on as a whole and will not be voted on my category.
The question will be on the November 4 ballot. To see a summary of question 7, visit the website voteyeson7.org
