Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx joined state and federal lawmakers at TF Green Monday to celebrate improvements made to the state’s airport.
In a ceremony held on the runway, officials commemorated the expansion of the runway and other improvements to the airport as an economic made possible by federal grants.
“This project including EMAS at the end of runway 16 will make this airport even safer and it will strengthen this as one of the most important airports in the region,” said Foxx.
Senator Jack Reed also attended the event; he said TF Green’s recently announced partnership with German airline Condor is the result of the continued investment in the airport.
“It’s been rated as one of Americas best airports for the last two years running, and that’s no accident, it’s hard work and great effort,” said Reed.
Other improvements in the works for the airport include safety improvements to the secondary runway and building a new de-icing facility.
