President Bill Clinton headlined a fifty-dollar-a-ticket fundraiser for Seth Magaziner to help in his bid to become the state’s next treasurer.
Speaking in front of a crowd of about 300 people, Clinton told the audience how he had known Magaziner all his life and how his father, Ira Magaziner, worked on his Clinton Global Initiative.
The former president said the people of Rhode Island should pay attention to Magaziner’s economic plan and how it could help the state.
“I am telling you, this is a blue print which a treasurer could implement, you would get more jobs, more growth, higher wages, greater opportunity and more hope out of it,” said Clinton.
“Seth Magaziner is not too young to be an effective treasurer,” Clinton continued, “He’s about the right age, I was 30-years-old when I was elected Attorney General of my native state, and I was 32 when I was elected governor, and we did a lot of good, what matters is ‘what are your ideas and can you work with other people?’”
The last time the President visited Rhode Island was to support Magaziner’s opponent Frank Caprio during his failed bid for governor in 2010.
