Providence Mayoral Candidate Brett Smiley is alleged to drop out Friday and endorse Democratic opponent Jorge Elorza during a joint-press conference.
WPRI reports sources close to Smiley’s campaign have confirmed the plan to drop out.
The lone Republican in the race Dr. Dan Harrop said this potential new development doesn’t change his strategy for the general election.
“I’m not sure that it changes my position at all at the current time we have already announced we are going through until the November and it will still be a three way race and it still will be an interesting pool.”
When asked why he believes Smiley would be withdrawing, Harrop believes it is due to Michael Solomon’s robust political campaigning.
“It will be interesting to see what the press conference if Brett smiley or perhaps they will announce a coalition to beat mike. We will wait and see how close this affiliation is going to be.”
Elorza’s campaign would not offer comment and a message was left with the Smiley campaign.
