PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Two groups that advocate for veterans in Rhode Island and across New England are sharing $3.3 million in federal grants for housing and other services.
The state's congressional delegation said Thursday that Operation Stand Down Rhode Island is getting more than $1.3 million from two separate grants to help provide at-risk and homeless veterans with housing, job training and placement services and other supports.
Another group, the Massachusetts-based Veterans Inc., will receive $2 million to serve veterans in the six New England states.
Operation Stand Down's executive director says the funds will allow it to expand housing and employment and training programs to hundreds more veterans.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed says more needs to be done to address homelessness among veterans.
