PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning following heavy downpours that hit parts of Rhode Island. Some urban flooding has been reported as a strong thunderstorm swept into the region.
The warning was issued until 1 p.m. Thursday for parts of Kent, Newport, Providence and Washington counties.
The weather service says the storm could produce 1.5 inches of rain per hour and that flooding is expected in communities including Providence, Warwick, Bristol, Barrington, East Providence and Warren.
The service is warning people to stay indoors. High winds could cause some minor damage.
