Massachusetts police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at 6:30 on Friday morning.
State Police responded to a report of a single car crash on Route 495 northbound in Bellingham. The car had gone over the guardrail on the right side of the highway and rolled over, causing the 4-year-old female passenger to be ejected from the car. She was transported to Milford hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“The contributing factors still remain under investigation, but we do know at this point was that the child was not properly restrained in a child safety seat, said Spokesperson for Massachusetts State Police David Procopio.
The operator of the vehicle has been identified as Luis Gonzalez, 22, of Providence. He was not injured in the crash. He has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failing to properly secure the child in a restraint seat. A second passenger, Illienes Santana, 20, of Providence was transported to Milford Hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. State Police would not say what the relation was between the operator and the child.
