A West Warwick woman has been arrested and charged with nine counts of embezzlement after cashing $8,000 worth of checks from the Coventry Boy Scout Troop #1.
According to Coventry Police, Committee Chairman J. Rockne Starks realized that the balance of Troop 1’s checking account was unusually low, and upon checking transactions from the past year, determined that Treasurer Katherine Valenti had written nine checks out to cash and cashed them herself.
Valenti, 54, of West Warwick, had already paid back some of the embezzled money before the crime was detected. She will be charged with nine counts of embezzlement and was issued a District Court summons with a court date of June 12, 2013.
