National Donut Day is June 7, and to celebrate, Dunkin' Donuts is releasing a brand new creation: the glazed donut breakfast sandwich.
The 360 calorie sandwich features bacon and a fried egg between a split glazed donut, and was previously only available in portions of Massachusetts. But starting this week, the sandwich will be a permanent item on menus at DD’s nationwide.
According to Stan Frankenthaler, Dunkin’s Executive Chef and Vice President of Global Product Innovation, the sandwich is the result of an experiment pairing sweet and savory Dunkin favorites. In a news release, Frankenthaler called the sandwich “fun and quirky” and “very ‘Dunkin.’”
“The glazed donut is light and fluffy and gives you just the right amount of sweetness,” said Frankenthaler. “Combined with the lightly salted, smoked bacon, the texture and flavors marry together in a wonderful way. It’s a delicious bite of the perfect harmonization of sweet and savory flavors.”
Participating Dunkin' Donuts stores will also offer free donuts with the purchase of a beverage on June 7.
