A hearing was held Tuesday evening at the State House for a proposed bill that would regulate and tax legal amounts of marijuana. It would be sold similarly to alcohol where buyers have to be 21-years-old and up.
“I think this is a great solution because it creates a licensed model so that instead of drug dealers determining where, when and to whom marijuana is sold to, we have licensed businesses that have a strong disincentive to sell to minors because their license will be revoked, criminal penalties and such,” said Executive Director of the organization Protect Families First Rebecca McGolerick.
Those against the bill question the safety.
“You can say it’s safer but how is it safer? How is it safer for kids, how is it safer for people who get into cars after they smoke and they’re high? So it’s certainly not safer for anyone else on the road. I’m not quite sure how it’ safer,”
