PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Rhode Island Senate will soon vote on the judicial nomination of its former president.
A Senate committee on Tuesday endorsed the appointment of Joseph Montalbano to the Superior Court. Gov. Lincoln Chafee tapped Montalbano to serve on the court earlier this month. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
A vote has been scheduled for Thursday.
Montalbano is currently a district court magistrate and served as Senate president from 2004 until 2009. The 58-year-old Democrat is also a former chief judge of the North Providence Municipal Court.
