A man has been arrested after allegedly robbing a Hess gas station in Fall River. The man also caused a bomb squad to be deployed to the location after leaving behind a device he claimed to be an explosive.
According to the Fall River Police, officers responded to the Hess Gas Station on Pleasant St. Monday in regard to an armed robbery and a suspicious package left behind by the suspect.
The 25-year-old female clerk told police that a male entered the store while carrying a package and made a purchase. He then left the store only to return moments later. This time he told the clerk that he had a bomb and then demanded money. He then showed her a package that appeared to be suspicious. An undisclosed amount of cash was given to the suspect and the suspect then left in a taxi cab. After talking with witnesses police were able to locate and arrest the suspect, Robert Raymond Chase, 50, at his residence in Fall River.
The State Police Bomb Squad responded to Hess Gas and examined the package and determined that the package was not a threat.
Chase was charged with Armed Robbery, Bomb Threat with Serious Public Alarm. Possessing with Intent to Cause Fear a Bomb Hoax, Disturbing the Peace.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
