TAKE MOM TO THE BALLET: Festival Ballet has three performances of Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty” this weekend – Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. All performances of this classic ballet are at the Vets Memorial Auditorium in Providence. Tickets range from $20 to $65 and can be purchased here. 
BEACHES OPEN: Four local beaches are opening this weekend, two weeks before the typical Memorial Day opening. Scarborough North, Roger Wheeler, East Matunuck and Misquamicut State beaches will be open Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The beach parking fee for Rhode Island residents is $14 on the weekends.
SPRING FEST: This weekend, the town of Westerly will hold their Community SpringFest at Misquamicut State Beach. The festival will feature a carnival, music, food, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and more. There will also be a fireworks display tonight, Friday May 10 at 8 p.m. Click here for a full schedule and information.

BEGGARS BANQUET: Join me Saturday night for the inaugural Beggars Banquet to benefit The WIlbury Group, one of Providence’s most unique theater troupes. There will be bands, beers, food, raffles and more. I’ll be your host and emcee. Admission is $20. The party starts at 7 p.m. at the Southside Cultural Center in Providence. Click here for info.
THEATER: The Gamm Theatre just opened a dark comedy called “The Beauty Queen of Leenane.” The performances are superb and the story is enthralling, but be warned: this play is not for children or squeamish adults.
