The Bishop of Worcester, Robert McManus, was arraigned Tuesday morning in Wakefield District Court following his arrest Saturday night.
McManus’ lawyer entered a plea of not guilty to charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
McManus was apprehended by Narragansett Police Saturday after striking another vehicle and leaving the scene. After failing a field sobriety test he was subsequently charged with a DUI.
McManus apologized for the incident in a statement; he did not comment Tuesday about how the arrest might impact his role as Bishop.
