Just days after the deadly bombings in Boston, Rhode Islanders are already lining up fundraisers and benefits for victims and their families.
Bryant University held a commemorative one-mile run Tuesday called “Run as One,” and there are more events coming up this week and weekend.
Today, there will be a run/walk at 12:30 p.m. at Salve Regina University’s Recreation Center to express support for the victims and their families.
On Friday, Providence College will host a run/walk at 4:30 p.m. beginning at Slavin Lawn. They ask participants to wear black, white or Boston sports team apparel.
On Saturday morning, there will be a group run sponsored by Rhode Runner and the Rhode Runner Athletic Club. The run will begin at Three Sisters Bakery on Blackstone Boulevard in Providence; runners will cover the length of Blackstone and head back to the bakery, which is about a 3 mile distance. Donation can be made to the Red Cross here.
Saturday night there will be a Bowl for Boston fundraiser at East Providence Lanes on Newport Avenue in East Providence. The fundraiser will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes 2 hours of bowling and shoe rental. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will be divided between Boston Children’s Hospital and Mass General.
