Officials report that a woman has died after being removed from her burning home at 82 Spofford Avenue in Warwick late this morning.
It took fire crews more than an hour to put out the flames.
According to fire officials, the woman sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, which she later died.
A fire department spokesman would not immediately identify her, pending notification of her family.
"Big, huge flames, very bright fire," said George Valcone, a neighbor. He said that the victim ran back inside the house to try to retrieve her dog.
