Governor Lincoln Chafee said the state will take a close look at how the University of Rhode Island gunman scare was handled Thursday.
“I’m so grateful that nothing happened,” Chafee told WPRO Friday morning.
In a statement, the governor commended the Rhode Island State Police, local law enforcement and URI for their quick response to yesterday’s reports.
“While I am pleased that initial reports of an active shooter proved to be unfounded, incidents such as this offer an important opportunity to review our emergency operations, and that will certainly be the case here,” he said in a statement.
Chafee said it “defies belief” that mass shootings occur, adding that “it’s a new world out there but we're going to be ready for it.”
“We have to be ready and we will be,” he said.
