Rep. Doreen Costa (R-North Kingstown) appeared on "Fox and Friends" with Brian Kilmeade Friday morning to discuss Rhode Island Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
The issue of food stamps has gotten a lot of play in light of Ken Block’s report on state assistance fraud and waste, which uncovered that ACI inmates and deceased individuals were still getting SNAP assistance.
In a segment called “Rhode Island: Food Stamp State?” Costa told Kilmeade that 180,000 Rhode Islanders are now enrolled in the SNAP program, something that costs the state millions of dollars annually.
“We just can’t afford it anymore and we see nothing coming down the pike that’s going to help these people,” she said.
She also said the local business climate is suffering and people are leaving the state to find employment elsewhere.
“We don’t have any jobs here because there’s no business friendly legislation that has been put in at the state house,” she said,
Costa said she believes those at the State House don’t see job creation as a major issue.
“The legislation that just passed is making calamari the appetizer of the state of Rhode Island. How is that going to create any jobs?” she said.
