The Rhode Island State Police arrested 22 drunk drivers over the weekend, including one person who had a two-month-old infant in the vehicle.
Captain Frank Castellone, District B Commander for the State Police, said they had extra patrols out during the weekend to crack down on impaired drivers.
William Henderson, 45, of Harrisville, was charged with a DUI after taking a breath test and blowing a .325 and a .331 — more than four times the legal limit.
"[Being] behind the wheel at any level of intoxication is certainly life threatening to others and yourself, but to do it at that level, it's surprising that he was even awake to do it," Castellone told WPRO Monday.
Orlando Lopez, 22, refused to take a breathalyzer, but was deemed to be driving under the influence. He also had two other adults and a 2-month-old infant in the car with him.
"The level of irresponsibility there is mindboggling," said Castellone.
Castellone said he understands that people want to enjoy themselves during holidays like St. Patrick's Day, but he urges people to do it responsibly.
