Providence College basketball legend Bruce “Soup” Campbell has died following a battle with cancer. He was 56 years old.
Campbell was revered as one of the best basketball players in Providence College history, New England Basketball Hall of Famer Joe Hassett told WPRO's John DePetro Friday.
“I’m sure he’s up in heaven right now telling Coach Gavitt he didn’t get enough shots when he was playing for him,” he said.
In addition to being a fantastic athlete, Hassett said Campbell was a terrific person.
“He was one of the funniest guys and very popular on campus,” he said. “He was quite a character and a great player, too.”
