PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Woonsocket school official was hit by a car outside the State House in Providence after testifying before state lawmakers.
Police told the Woonsocket Call that School Committee member Anita McGuire-Forcier was starting to cross Smith Street in a crosswalk when she was hit Wednesday night. Officials say her injuries aren't life-threatening, but she was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Providence police issued traffic citations to the driver of the car, who was found not to be impaired.
McGuire-Forcier testified Wednesday against legislation that would allow schools to charge participation fees for extracurricular activities including sports and bands. WPRI-TV reports she told lawmakers that many Woonsocket children can't afford pay-to-play fees. She worried about the crime rate increasing if students were excluded from after-school activities.
