Massachusetts Congressman Ed Markey took a campaign trip to Fall River on Thursday afternoon. The Democrat is currently running in the special election to fill former Senator John Kerry’s seat.
“My intention is to go down there to fight for our goals on education, on health care, to guarantee that we continue to be the American leader in the advancement of a quality of opportunity for every American,” says Markey.
In an off the cuff speech he made to the fifty or so people crammed inside Barcelos Bakery he highlighted immigration, gun laws and women’s rights.
“I’m running a positive campaign; I’m running on my record. I’m running on not only my record of achievement in the past but also on my vision of where I see our country going. That’s going to be the tenure of my campaign,” says Markey.
Markey is running against Democrat Representative Stephen Lynch in the primary for the Senate seat. The special election will be on June 25, the primary will take place in mid May.
