WEATHER: Potential for widespread outages, says National Grid

WPRO Newsroom

David Graves, spokesman for National Grid, told Gene Valicenti on the WPRO Morning News that they have contractor crews set up across the state.

Graves said National Grid has 85 crews at CCRI in Warwick, as well as 20 at Twin River in Lincoln. They have additional crews in Middletown in case the bridges are closed due to high winds.

In addition to their own crews, Graves said they have a couple of hundred tree crews available to them in case of tree damage.

“We’re looking at potential for some widespread outages,” said Graves Friday morning, saying that given the predicted wind velocities, there could be damage to power lines.

Although they have crews at the ready, Graves said the snow will factor into how quickly crews can arrive on site to fix downed lines and trees.

“Compounding the complexity of the restoration is two feet of snow that’s got to be cleared out of the way before our trucks can hit the road and get where they need to be,” he said.
