Bless Me Oprah For I Have Sinned
After a decade of vehemently denying and legal actions against those who accused him, Lance Armstrong finally came clean admitting in an interview with Oprah Winfrey on her struggling OWN network that he doped throughout his cycling career. That includes all seven Tour de France titles he won from 1999-2005. Those titles have since been stripped from him. His mea culpa wasn’t exactly a Norman Bates has become his own mother moment.
Armstrong was short on detail during last nite’s interview, the second part of which airs tonight. He acknowledged being the ringleader of an elaborate doping scheme for his U.S Postal Service team and said he didn’t feel at the time that he was doing anything wrong or that he was cheating. HUH? He implied most of his rivals at the time were juicing too. He didn’t name names of any rivals of those who helped him dope. I don’t expect that to change during tonite’s second installment.
The one thing Armstrong didn’t address is why he’s coming clean NOW. It may be because he wants to compete again at some time in the future. Right now he’s banned from competitive sports which was imposed on him last year after a damaging report from the U.S Anti-Doping Agency. If he totally comes clean about his doping and provides information on the anti-doping scheme…in other words rats people out….he might be able to get his ban reduced to eight years, at which time he’d be 49.
Don’t know about you, but I’m not exactly bolting to the tube for part two tonight. This has DVR (at best) written all over it. The “Oh Wow” factor is half a rung above Geraldo’s AL CAPONE’S VAULT debacle.
Can I find it in my heart to forgive Lance for being, as he so poetically put it, “a flawed character?” Sure….if he does me one small favor listed at end of today’s blog.
My Best To DROP DEAD FRED
What in the world of pies and cakes is happening on the Notre Dame campus? Questions abound but answers do not around Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o and his dead online girlfriend who turned out to have never Existed. Reports now say Te’o TWICE talked about her after he supposedly found out in early December that the woman he said he’d been with for three years didn’t exist. The Associated Press says Te’o talked about Lennay Kekua on December 8thand again in a December 10thpublished interview even though the college said that he had learned on December 6ththat the online girlfriend never existed and was a hoax. In the December 8thinterview the Heisman Trophy runner up said “I don’t like cancer at all. I lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer.” This fuels speculation that Te’o wasn’t the victim of a hoax but someone involved in perpetrating it.
Dr Bombay…come right away.
Game Changer
No “game changer” in Linc Chafee’s STATE OF THE STATE address the other night, however, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s plan to drop the Massachusetts’ sales tax from 6.5% to 4.5% IS a game changer for both the Bay State and Ocean State. That combined with the casino threat to the North is a hell of a one-two punch to Rhode Island. If Patrick’s sales tax pitch passes, it’ll be time for us to regroup and do so FAST.
Pats-Ravens
Why do so many pundits think this game WON’T be the typical Pats-Ravens low scoring affair? Pats 31 Ravens 24.
I Can Forgive Lance Armstrong IF…….
Lance the Liar’s work with cancer patients scores his Zippity Do Dah with me on the “FORGIVEOMETER”……………….
If he rides the Tour De France course once without a bicycle seat then I’ll cut him some slack. . I don’t think that’s asking too much.
