FLU SEASON…it can certainly dominate the news and is a top of mind concern for everyone. We know that worry is at its peak when the Diocese waives the handshake during the “kiss or sign of peace” and the communion chalice at mass.
Flu shots are reportedly still readily available. Here's hoping they match whatever strain I hope you don't get. Have already seen the wrong strain in my family and it’s not pretty, including the visit to the emergency room (ordered by the doctor). The crowds of people who apparently think the emergency room is a doctor’s office or a pharmacy never seem to subside.
Be nice to all the doctors, nurses, office personnel in our medical facilities. Dealing with the general sick public is no picnic.
THE GUN CONTROL DRAMA FROM STATE HOUSES TO THE WHITE HOUSE is so predictable. The first and most simple interim solution post Sandy Hook would be to increase presence of police in our schools, including the elementary schools. Federal aid would help (look at all the pork wasted in the superstorm aid bill) but minimally each local community should be inspired to pick up an interim plan of an officer in each school until long term plans which make sense can be developed.
This is what Wayne Lapierre said. The NRA leader made this a point in his otherwise over the top speech. But because he's the messenger, the idea is ridiculed. Nonsense responses arguing the “fortress” just add to the political rhetoric.
Let’s see what VP Joe Biden delivers on Tuesday. I doubt anything he suggests will see the necessary support in congress, so we will be regulated to executive orders which fall short of the administrations goals.
If they had just given the school safety idea some quick response and respect, the NRA might have cooled its jets instead of revving up and adding 100,000 members in two weeks.
SAME SEX MARRIAGE coming to us next week. Looks like a dogfight in the state senate. It might not get out of the judiciary committee. Funny how that works, when the senate president is against the idea. Bishop Tobin calls for a referendum. The governor says he'll veto that idea. Lots of drama for an issue which ought to be deep second to our economy.
THE SAKONNET RIVER “OVERPASS”. A listener said to just call it that. He's right. It's certainly not the impressive structure that the Pell, Jamestown or Mt. Hope are, right? So if you are calling something else, maybe the point becomes clearer that it should not qualify or the tolls that will burden the locals who see it as nothing more than an access road.
Sad to see the Irish get creamed in the BCS championship. But Alabama looked like an NFL team and ND had no shot, period.
PATS win easy this weekend. And congrats to Bryant men’s basketball with 10 wins already and 3-0 in the league.
Enjoy the thaw. It won't last. And wash your hands, a lot!
