The Sawyer School located in Providence closed its doors on Tuesday with little to no advance notice for their students and staff.
“There was no official contact that we’re aware of to this office by the Sawyer School. I’m not saying it didn’t happen, but so far today I’m not aware of any contact from the Sawyer School,” said Mike Trainor, the spokesman for Rhode Island office of Higher Education.
Trainor says their first priority is to the 302, now displaced, students.
“We’ve been trying to get in touch with the Sawyer School to understand their sense of the financial deposits that may have been made for the second semester which began today as a matter of fact, so we’re looking at that. We are going to be in touch with the federal government regarding the federal government’s payment of financial aid, making sure that gets redirected to wherever these students end up going,”
A phone call to the Sawyer School went unanswered.
