In the aftermath of the Newtown Conn. Shooting Mayor William Flanagan of Fall River has ordered police detail in all of the city’s schools until further notice.
Fall River has 16 public schools that will now be staffed with a police officer. Flanagan said that he made this decision after talking to parents who were anxious and scared about sending their children to school.
We are not decreasing police coverage in our city. We are keeping our police coverage status quo and these will be additional officers stationed at all or our public school,” Flanagan told the WPRO Morning News with Tara Granahan and Andrew Gobeil. “I don’t think we can place a price tag on the safety of our children.”
Flanagan said that he is hoping this measure will help alleviate the fears and anxiety of parents that he has heard from. He said safety of the city’s children is one of his main priorities as mayor.
