By Andrew Gobeil, WPRO Host
An Olympic medalist, a recently crowned Miss America and an immigrant bravely clinging to a baseball bat while hiding out in a Providence attic.
What do these have in common?
They’re all up for Rhode Islander of the Year.
Yup, it’s that time of year when a young investor’s mind turns to year-end deductions, a young hipster’s mind turns to finding the most ironic New Year’s party….
….and a young journalist puts together an annual Year in Review series.
The WPRO Morning News is giving you three for the price of one this year. Beginning on December 26th, we’ll run down Rhode Island’s story of the year, person of the year and sports event of the year (why “sports event” you ask? Because it’s my darn list….you got a problem with that?)
As we spend the next week putting the series together, we’re asking for your input. What Rhode Island based stories meant the most to you this year?
38 Studios?
The Cranston Prayer Banner/Woonsocket War Memorial controversies?
The indictment of the former mayor of Central Falls and the city’s election of a new mayor?
Antony Gemma’s Quixotic campaigns?
Lincoln Chafee’s dalliance with the Democratic party?
The –less than stellar- performance of the GOP in Rhode Island?
You know what they say: Rhode Island is a theme park for journalists. By helping us pick these Stories of the Year, you too can jump on that five-ticket-ride and enjoy the ups and downs of the Biggest Little State in the Union. Email –or simply post on Facebook– your story ideas and we’ll discuss them on New Year’s Day.
