Officials at Cranston High School East confirm that police are investigating reports of a gun at the high school earlier on Monday.
"A couple of students went to the school administration and reported the possibility of a gun being somewhere on campus,” explains Ray Votto, Chief Operating Officer for Cranston Schools. “The administration at Cranston High School East then contacted the central administration as well as the Cranston Police Department.
The school went on partial lock down as police investigated the situation. No gun was located but the investigation is continuing.
The incident involved one student overhearing two other students talking and mentioning a gun. The student immediately sent a text message to a parent who alerted the school. Police and school officials conductes an invesitgation where they questioned the two students and searched thier backpacks. A Cranston Police Canine Officer was also called to the scene with a dog trained in firearm detection, nothing was uncovered.
“These things are never easy to deal with even more so around this time regarding the Connecticut shooting. Everybody is really on edge,” said Votto. “One good thing about it is we always practice our emergency protocols in matters such as this.”
