Rhode Island's presidential electors, as expected, Monday cast their ballots for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joesph Biden.
The electors convened Monday after noon in the State House. The four electors, State Representative – elect Marvin Abney of Newport, Emily Maranjian of Providence and L. Susan Weiner and Mark Weiner of East Greenwich all cast their ballots for Obama and Biden.
Governor Lincoln Chafee and Secretary of State Ralph Mollis presided over the ceremony. Similar scenes were played out across the country, as electors cast ballots in line with the votes cast in the November election.
Mollis' office organized the event.
"By federal law, electors representing the political party of the candidate who wins the popular vote for President in each state officially elect the President and Vice President by casting votes on the first Monday following the second Wednesday in December," said Mollis.
The votes will be forwarded to Washington, D.C., where they will be counted in January. Obama is expected to receive 332 votes to Mitt Romney's 206.
