An 11-year-old Smithfield girl brought Christmas cheer to a struggling veteran and his daughter over the weekend.
Skyla Dubois, an 11-year-old girl with autism, has spent money she has been saving to buy a veteran and his two-year-old daughter, Summer, Christmas gifts.
The veteran who benefited from Skyla’s bug heart is Justin St. Pierre, a former marine. St.Pierre lives in Bissell Street in Providence in housing provided by Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI), a nonprofit organization that houses and helps homeless and at risk veterans.
On Saturday Dec. 14 Dubois arrived to OSDRI headquarters in Johnston with a bag of gifts she had been saving her money to buy. All together Skylar save $170 between her allowance money and loose change she was able to collect from her family. Skylar learned of OSDRI in June at a fundraiser and told her family members she wanted to buy Christmas gifts for an in need veteran family.
