A four alarm fire on Route 6 in Fairhaven, Mass., has destroyed four buildings at a local nursery.
The fire broke out at the G. Bourne Knowles and Company on Huttleston Avenue around 7:30 a.m. and it quickly grew to a four alarm fire. Firefighters believe the fire started in a shed that housed tools and equipment it spread to a greenhouse and a four story office building.
“We immediately initiated an attack. Our concerns were this building houses some chemicals and pesticides for landscaping and lawn care so that was our major concern. We have a large stream behind this building that could have been affected, so we went into defense mode right away,” said Fairhaven Fire Chief Tim Francis.
Workers were on the property getting ready for the day when the fire broke out. No one has been reported injured as a result of the fire however one woman was injured when she crashed into a fire truck that was responding to the scene.
Fire fighters say it is too early to determine if it was a result of arson.
