Feeling Their Pain
I have great empathy for the folks on Aquidneck Island who are looking at a toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge. I especially feel for the merchants there. Unfortunately,I can’t come up with a solution to avoid a toll on that structure. Maybe somebody above my pay grade can before the toll booths are installed.
Residents and businesses had a chance to air out their opposition at two public hearings this week, Monday night at Portsmouth High School and last night at Tiverton High. Both gatherings generated overflow crowds.
Department of Transportation Director Michael Lewistold last nite’s crowd that a toll on the Sakonnet Bridge would decrease traffic over the span by 21%. Imagine what’s going thru a business owner’s mind when they hear that? Yikes.
She’s So Old
Besse Cooper, who was listed by Guiness World records as the world’s oldest person, checked out in a Georgia nursing home at age 116. To put that into perspective, she was born in 1896, the year the following events took place:
–William McKinley was elected president
–Utah was admitted as the 45th state
–Fannie Farmer published her first cookbook
-The X-Ray machine was exhibited for the first time
-The first modern Olympic games were held in Athens
-The Ford Quaricycle, the first Ford vehicle ever developed, was completed
–John Phillip Sousa composed STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER
Cooper’s passing leaves 115-year-old Dina Manfrendi of Johnston, Iowa, as the world’s oldest person. The oldest known person of all time was Jeanne Calment of France, who died in 1997 at age 122.
PLEASE Don’t Go There
Bill Murrayhas reportedly signed on for GHOSTBUSTERS THREE. Harold Ramis says Murray had dropped out of the film (wisely) but later called Ramis in the middle of the night (unwisely) to say he’d participate.
I did a show once asking for the worst sequels of all time and GHOSTBUSTERS TWO was in the top 10….deservedly so.
Great Gosh Almighty
Little Richard, born Richard Wayne Penniman, is 80 today.
