Portsmouth High School was standing room only on Monday night where people patiently waited to voice their opinions on the Sakonnet River Bridge toll. One of the major talking points of the evening was businesses being affected by it.
“The toll would be devastating, we’re gonna lose approximately $250,000 a summer. 50% of our business comes from the other side of the bridge, Fall River, Westport, Dartmouth, and these people look forward to coming down every weekend for their clam cakes and chowder and they’re not going to be able to afford a toll plus food too,” said Komes Rozes, the owner of Flo’s Clam Shack in Middletown.
RIDOT says the informational workshop was held to provide the public with the information they needed to know. Plus it gave the public the chance to tell RIDOT their concerns.
“Everybody’s gonna hurt and things are bad enough the way they are right now. I’m on a fixed income, I can’t afford any more than what I’m doing right now” said Little Compton resident Tony.
Another meeting will be held on Tuesday night at Tiverton High School.
