PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island’s new education commissioner is continuing to visit schools around the state to kick off the new school year.

Commissioner Angelica Infante-Green says she’s eager to work with school and community leaders to strengthen school culture and the quality of teaching and learning across the state.

She will visit middle schools in East Providence and Providence on Tuesday. She’s going to a “walking school bus” program in Providence Wednesday morning. Students walk with their classmates and an adult volunteer to school.

Infante-Green is also planning to go to the North Kingstown High School on Thursday.

She started the school year by visiting schools in Scituate and West Greenwich last week.

Infante-Green says the visits are the beginning of a productive year of collaboration and improvement.
