PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – The Rhode Island Lottery has ordered the removal of 360 underperforming video slots machines from the Twin River casinos.

The electronic games were provided by gambling company IGT.

Lottery Director Gerald Aubin told a legislative oversight committee Monday that IGT’s slots were not meeting the minimum requirements in the company’s contract.

Department of Revenue spokesman Paul Grimaldi says Lottery officials informed IGT of the removal Tuesday.

According to the Lottery’s latest report, IGT provided 84% of the 5,175 electronic-gambling machines at Twin River’s casinos in Lincoln and Tiverton.

IGT spokesman Bill Fischer says the company intends to work with the Lottery to complete the machines’ removal.

The Providence Journal reports it is not clear if Aubin plans to reassign any of IGT’s machine spots to its competitors.
