A special performance at Bridgefest, the series of free concerts that “bridge” the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals at Newport’s Fort Adams State Park will feature the founder of the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals.

George Wein, the 94-year old founder of both festivals, who began his career as a jazz pianist will give a rare performance onstage August 1, along with the Jazz Festival’s Artistic Director, bassist Christian McBride and the Newport Jazz Assembly Band, which has performed in some 64 public schools across Rhode Island.

Prior to the performance, there will be a fundraising reception to benefit a new, Newport Festivals Museum.

Although no details were given, the museum was announced last summer when the nonprofit that runs the folk and jazz festivals announced a 40-year agreement with Rhode Island for the use of the state park.
